Ranks, Titles & Standing

Every faction character carries a personal standing — a record of their deeds in the war. Standing is measured in kill points, expressed as a rank, and displayed as a title above your name.

Kill Points

Kill points are the currency of glory (distinct from silver, the currency of trade — see Faction Warfare).

  • Earned by defeating enemy faction members in sanctioned combat.
  • Tracked per character — each of your characters builds its own standing.
  • The amount awarded scales with the worth of your victim: defeating a decorated, high-standing enemy is worth far more than cutting down a fresh recruit.
  • A defeated player loses kill points equal to what the victor gains, down to a floor — there is a limit below which a player is simply "not worth enough" to bother with.

Your current standing can be checked at any time by saying "showscore", which displays your kill points above your head.

Ranks

Your kill point total determines your rank — a ladder of ten steps. Each faction has its own themed titles for the ten ranks, but the thresholds are the same across all three.

Rank Kill Points Required
1 0
2 25
3 75
4 150
5 300
6 500
7 800
8 1,200
9 1,800
10 2,500

(Thresholds are subject to balancing.)

As your kill points rise and fall, your rank follows — climb the ladder by fighting well, and slip back down if you fall too often to your enemies.

Titles by Faction

Each faction dresses its ten ranks in its own language of honor. Your title reflects both who you serve and how far you've risen.

The base member title granted on joining — Templar, Militia, Merchant — sits within each ladder rather than being replaced by it. The exact titles for each rank are part of the living lore of each faction; a rank-10 champion of the Holy Order bears a very different name than a fresh Yew recruit.

At the top of every ladder stands the faction's most decorated rank — a name earned by very few.

The Name Display

When another player examines you, your faction identity appears with your name — your title followed by your faction, in the classic style:

Grand Templar, Holy Order of Trinsic

The display carries meaning at a glance:

  • Allies and enemies are colored differently. A member of your own faction sees your title in one hue; a rival sees it in another — the color itself tells them whether you are friend or foe.
  • The Lord Commander is marked. A faction's elected leader displays "Lord Commander" in place of their rank title, so their authority is unmistakable.
  • Non-members show nothing. Players outside the factions carry no faction title at all.

Your title updates the moment your standing changes — rank up in the heat of battle, and your new title is immediate.

Why Rank Matters

Beyond prestige, rank carries weight:

  • Leadership is earned. Running for Lord Commander requires reaching a threshold rank — only proven fighters may seek to lead (see Elections & Leadership).
  • Standing is visible. Your title is worn openly. High rank is a target painted on your back and a reputation that precedes you.
